The Zagros Fold Belt extends across western Iran and northeastern Iraq and represents one of the most extensive active fold-and-thrust systems on Earth. Its structural architecture records long-term deformation, basin interaction, uplift, and sediment redistribution.
This paper evaluates Zagros geometry through observable constraints including fold orientation, thrust continuity, deformation gradients, structural segmentation, basin-margin relationships, and regional continuity with the Arabian Plate.
Particular attention is given to the persistence of large-scale structural trends and the extent to which these trends preserve measurable geometric relationships across regional scales.
Within the ABC Sequencing framework, the Zagros system is examined as a structural continuation of previously evaluated Mediterranean and Arabian corridor systems.
For geological mapping, resource evaluation, and subsurface interpretation, the Zagros Fold Belt remains one of the most important natural laboratories for understanding large-scale deformation geometry.
