What Was Recoverable?
Survival alone is insufficient.
Information may survive while remaining inaccessible.
A structure hidden beneath sediments survives. A basin buried beneath younger deposits survives. A lithospheric boundary concealed beneath continental crust survives.
Yet survival only becomes scientifically useful when information becomes recoverable.
The Meaning of Recoverability
Recoverability represents the transition from existence to observation.
Throughout Earth: Day Zero, recoverability repeatedly emerged through the interaction of multiple independent archives:
- Structural relationships
- Topographic expressions
- Geophysical signatures
- Basin architecture
- Mineral systems
- Tectonic organization
Each preserved fragments of a larger record.
None were complete.
Together they became informative.
